"The Whirlpool and  Memory"
Introduction of Iseo Nose by Nobutaka Ueda

TheYu-Zu are charts that link concepts in a free way across barriers between different disciplines and historical periods. Naturally, the artist has to have an extremely broad range of knowledge, a strong will and an exceptional editing ability tomake them. The Yu-Zu are fundamental expressions of the editing function. Seigo Matsuoka founded a company called Kousakusha and began publishing an "object magazine Yu(play)". This was the original site for Nose's Yu-Zu. Nose was the instructor in ISIS edit school, managed by Matsuoka, so it is easy to understand why he was able to create this artistic world. For this exhibition, I asked Nose to make Yu-Zu on the theme "The whirlpool and Memory" using his own ideas for the exhibition of the same name. Then I created an image to accompany each of them. This might seem like adding something unnecessary, like legs on a snake, but I have found this process of collaboration to be very enjoyable. No.1toNo.4 present the four elements, ether, and the whirlpool; No. 5 to No. 7 traditional Shinto and sect Shinto; No. 8 to No.10 theories of the universe; No. 11 to No. 13 the history of philosophy and an expressive media “paraclete” ( counselor, intercessor) commenting on the evil that appears in the media. In these artworks, seemingly unrelated themes of rhythm and the musical scale, morphology, sacred geometry, and the history of life were edited and combined with reference to the whirlpool pattern. Ervin Lazlo spoke of the memory of the universe, and David Bohm explained his system of physics using the analogy of the whirlpool. The universe may have memories. I hope that this exhibition will help you to slowly read the memory of a whirlpool engraved in empty space.
